How Often Should You Book a Car Service?

Service intervals vary depending on the vehicle manufacturer and how the car is used. Most vehicles follow one of two service schedules.

Fixed Schedule Servicing:
Many vehicles require servicing after a specific time or mileage interval, typically every 12 months or around 12,000 miles. This type of schedule is common for drivers covering moderate annual mileage or mainly shorter journeys.

Variable or Long-Life Servicing:
Some modern vehicles monitor engine conditions electronically and notify the driver when servicing is required. These systems may allow longer intervals between services.

Your vehicle handbook will confirm which servicing schedule applies. If you’re unsure, our Exeter technicians will be happy to advise.

What’s included in a vehicle service at Elite Garages Exeter?

The work included in a vehicle service depends on the manufacturer’s requirements, the vehicle’s mileage and its age.
However, a typical car service may include:

  • engine oil and oil filter replacement
  • spark plug replacement where required
  • cabin and air filter checks or replacement
  • inspection of brake fluid, coolant and other fluids
  • checks for leaks, wear and safety-related issues
  • inspection of tyres, braking systems and suspension components

If our technicians discover anything that requires attention, we will always contact you first. No additional work is ever carried out without your approval, and replaced parts can be retained for inspection if requested.
