Run Flat Tyres

What are run flat tyres?

As the name says, these are tyres which are specially designed so you can still drive on them when they’re flat or punctured. So if you have a blow out you will remain in control of the car and can continue to drive until you reach somewhere to sort your tyre out. They are an added safety device for your car.

How do they work?

Run flat tyres have sidewalls that are reinforced or stiffened and which prevent them from collapsing outwards and being sliced off by the wheel rims. Most of these tyres have a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) which alerts the driver to the fact they have a puncture.

Peace of mind

Drivers know that they will not get stuck from a flat tyre.  There is no need to stop and change tyres, you can drive up to 50 miles at a speed of 50mph, allowing you to get home.

How do I know if I have run flat tyres?

Each tyre manufacturer has a different way of marking their tyres as run flat:

  • Pirelli mark run flat tyres with "ROF"
  • Continental mark run flat tyres with "SSR"
  • Michelin mark run flat tyres with "ZP"
  • Bridgestone's range of run flat tyres are labelled "DriveGuard"
